J Lo the Koi by
Benign Vanilla
We've decided to name one of our Koi, J.Lo. (S)he seems to have a bottom
that is wider then most in the pond. My question is, could this be a female,
rich with eggs?

Killing fish ... sorry : ( by
Nanceemo
I hate to be asking this question, but I need to get rid of many little
fishies. I've tried finding new homes, but no takers, and my pond looks more
like a mud puddle than anything, and the population is increasing
exponentially. Is there a ralatively humane way to do this?

How to kill fish by
GrannyGrump
From: http://www.bettasrus.com/disease/euthanasia.htm
One formula that is very well known is Clove Oil & Vodka. The only
reason for the vodka is to help the clove Oil dissolve into the water.
Do NOT increase the Vodka in hopes it will help your fish die faster,
it will cause more discomfort....

Changing Bio Filter by
NewbieBill
Here is another question I need your help on.
I started my pond with a Laguna 4500 Powerflo Filter. After day 1
realized this had very little mechanical filtering, so I took a 20 gal
plastic storage box, cut a 2" hole near the top, stuffed a foam
mattress egg crate in it and set it on my pond ledge...

Cat-safe algae control?? by
William Laven
I have a small pond that loves algae. But I don't! Though I have a UV
filter, there's still plenty of string algae. What I'm wondering is
whether any of the algae control products -- many list copper as the
active ingredient -- can be used when my pond also serves as a drinking
bowl for my 6...

bottom strainer question. by
DAN
Instead of putting a bottom drain, I attached a 2" hose from the
skimmer to the deepest part of the pond. The end of the hose has a
strainer. Should I point the strainer up or down. Can I put rocks in
the pond with the strainer. Would rocks help the pond cleaner or make
more trouble for myself....

Did I just kill my fish? by
Chrome!Hat
Hi,
Last summer I put in a new pond and this is the first year I've ever
overwintered fish (goldfish). When the ice thawed I noticed my fish looking
very white - some only on one side - and not moving. Some floated on top and
others lay on shelves. I pulled them out. Was that a big mistake?...

Kiddie pool by
Bill
As mentioned I am salting my pond. I took out quite a few plants and all
submerged or floating plants and put them in a kiddie pool, which appears to
hold about 60 gal of water. I filled it with primarily decholirnized water.
Should I be doing anything to these plants to keep them growing while...

Fish Problem followup by
Bill
Thank you all for your input about my flashing fish. I THINK we are on the
road to recovery. As someone suggested I am checking back to update for the
'board' knowledge base. Both of the local pond shops suggested if I didnt
want to overreact to my fish flashing, a good starting point would...

Idea for Iheartmypond by
joe
Hey BV,
Just a thought. You should set up a simple "for sale for postage" section on
your site. People with plants could enter what they had, their email
address, and location. They could then remove the entry when they were sold
out. Shouldn't be too hard to set up. You could even provide...

Rubbermaid filter life by
Roger Grady
My filter made from two Rubbermaid Roughneck 18 gal. totes will be
entering its third year. Given the way these things distort when full
of water, and that they're exposed to a lot of sun, anybody have any
thoughts or experience on how long they last? It would ruin a lot more
than my day if one of...

Cotswold stone around edge of fish pond by
P Verstege
Hello. I have a new 8' x 17' x 3' PVC-lined pond populated by 72
assorted goldfish/shubunkins and 3 koi. Around the outside of the pond
(on top of the overlapping liner) I have placed rocks. Some of these
are Cotswold sandstone type rocks I believe. I found them all lying
around the garden so I...

Pond's Open in Hamilton - Finally! by
axeman chris
I've been a little slow in getting the pond back up & running this spring.
It only happened this afternoon actually. There wasnt' too much accumulated
muck to scoop out, so that didn't take too long. The fish were certainly
happy to be back in there too, especially after having spent the winter in...
