Pond Lights by
Bill Oertell
I've been keeping the pond lights (two 20 watts) on at night hoping to keep the
water temperature from getting too cold. Here in the Sacramento Valley it's
been getting into the 30's lately. But I'm wondering if this is blinding the
fish to potential predators at night and possibly attracting...

Cleaned pond by
bk
After thre years, I have finally cleaned the bottom of our pond.
The water is very clean. There is just this layer of grime that seems
to build up. Seems like the internal flow deposits it along one side.
It gets stirred every couple days as I scoop out leaves.
Anyway, I borrowed a 5.5 hp 16...

Return to the Pond ... by
Zookeeper
Well, after months of computer problems, ISP problems, family and pet
illnesses and deaths, ... I'm back!! Talk about withdrawal symptoms --
really miss this group when I can't get to it as often as I like.
And now for the pond ... it's still there, LOL! I didn't get all the
fall leaves out...

pond in Ontario - and the winter we haven't had (yet) by
Don Falconer
Should I be concerned? Fish are swimming around, not "sleeping".
Approx. 300 gal x 28" deep max pond. 2 @ 6-8" koi and 5 small goldfish.
Fish not fed since late Oct. as is my understanding should not be fed once
water temp is less than 50 F.
Has been unusually mild here in Whitby, Ontario i.e....

OT ~ Wind chimes by
~ jan JJsPond.us
Tom, you mentioned high winds and swinging pipes of the windchimes. What is
the concern regarding this? Hitting the house? Or is there actually damage
to the pipes if they get to swinging too much? ~ jan :)

My cat by
tim chandler
Dear Mila,
You have my sympathy and condolences. I too lost a 14-year-old cat, my
beloved Pewee, also hit by a car, just about 4 years ago. I still miss her!
The only thing I can suggest, is to get another cat, from a kitten - not as
a replacement, but as a new companion. I found that after...

OT About OT by
BenignVanilla
Last year when I joined the group, I found Nov-Jan to have more OT then OnT.
I've noticed lately that there are a growing number of OT's and some posters
are starting to talk about it. I figured I'd be a bit pro-active about OT's.
On rec.ponds, as the season grows cold and our ponds become skating...

Engineering problem for you guys by
DesertPond
I've got a 400-gallon round galvanized tank (with liner) that I use
for quarantine purposes. I'd like to use some sort of bottom drain
setup for it but I'm not sure how to go about it. Not sure if it's a
good idea to drill a hole through the side for pipe access.
Any suggestions?
thx

can somebody suggest by
Rasputin
I was wondering if anybody knew of a newsgroup or discussion group to talk
about large ponds (+1/2 acre). I am trying to start out a good sport fish
base and thought it would be great if I could get some advice from those who
have been there and done that.
Thanx

Too cold in Miami?? by
bk
I have a 1200 gallon pond in Miami Beach. I'm 1/2 block from the bay
and 3 blocks from the ocean with two canals in between. So one would
think that we're protected from much cold. Temps went into high 40's last
week for maybe two days. These lows were not long lived for these two
days as well....

will mosquito fish survive the winter? by
Lydia
The pond is 2 feet deep ~ 500gal. I put about 15-20 mosquito fish in it
this fall. It's a new pond so I don't have anything else in it yet.
Usually our low temps. this season in Seattle are around 40-45F degrees, but
we've been having cold snaps where the pond has had a layer of ice on it for
a...

OT ~ Mad Moo Cow in SE WA by
Ka30P
Well, drat!
Here SE WA is in the news and not a happy
story. The Mad Moo Cow came from a farm
not too far from where jj and k30a live.
And it looks like both jj and k30a had ground
beef from the plant that processed the poor
cow. All ground meat is off the shelves at
our stores, part of the...

Wouldn't you know it. My ISP won't recognize default.html (or index or
start) when using just the directory. Therefore I changed the filename to
htm vice html. Now the link below will go to the directory. Sorry about
doing this twice. Will work either way, now.
