2 Fish Q's by LeeAnne
First, how cold can goldfish stand the water? It's getting chilly at night here near Boston - I don't know when to bring them in. For the winter they are going into a 55 gallon tank w/one other fish, and it's pretty much a constant 80 degrees - it'll take time to get 'em used to the warmth,...

Caring for clams found in the Columbia river(Portland, Or) by Curious
Hello World, I recently went to a beach on the Columbia river with my 7 year old son. We were trying to make a sand castle when he came across several small clams. He proclaimed himself the luckiest boy on the planet and immediately asked if he could keep them. I, of course, answered yes. I do not...

fingerling catfish feed (easy to find) ideas needed by Bruce
I am looking for some ideas to feed my golden catfish that is in my koi pond. It must be something that sinks fast because the koi seem to beat the fingerling to it all the time. I have heard of chicken liver (raw), anything else cheap and easy to get? Thanks, Bruce

What kind of turtle is this? by kristian
http://www.ourdogs.com/pics/turtleanduck.jpg Pic is from pond in back of my house, I'd guess the length of the shell is about 8"-10" sometimes there are up to 3 on the log. I don't know anything about turtles and wondered what kind of turtles they are.

BulkHead Fittings by Kodiak
Where can I get bulkhead fittings 1", 3/4", 1/2" without having to pay a fortune. (mail order) These are fittings with a nut on both sides so you can attach it to the bottom of a vessel or container, eg: used to make a biological filter out of a plastic barrel, so you can attach a hose to a vessel...

salt again by Carola or Les Simmons
Interesting to note that although I have never added salt to my pond I am getting a reading of 0.01% on my Accu-chek salt tester. The salt content is due entirely to salt contained in the tap water used to top up the pond due to evaporation. According to the local water supplier, the salt content...

Hey all, just wanted to share my excitement. We just got the liner in the hole a few days ago and yesterday morning we put a few hundred gallons of water in it (i'm guessing it'll be about 3000 gallons when full) to start working the wrinkles out. This morning i was down in the water cause i forgot...

pond design by Barry
We're designing a 4000 gallon pond. Designer has speced two 90gpm pump, two 3" floor drains and a skimmer. We have 4 water falls. One pump serves two waterfalls and the other serves the filter and the two other waterfalls. I think that the water falls should be segregated from the filter, but he...

A brief moment to philosophize by Dennis
Over the past eight years, we have slowly but surely progressed from a prefab 90 to a 150 to a 4,000 to a 10,000 gallon brick pond. The biggest one took this entire summer, on and off, with me acting as General Contractor (thanks to the advice I got from all of you kind people) supervising 3...

Lillies, Hardy vs Tropical by Lynn Strickland
I'm in zone 10b (North of San Diego) and just starting out. . I've heard that beginners should start with hardy lillies, but I'd guess that tropicals won't be too fussy around here -- and my thumbs tend to be on the green side anyway . 1. I like the look of the tropicals more -- but would I be...

Clay pond help please by Nicholas Walker
I've recently scooped out an old silted up pond in my garden which filled up and overflowed every winter but dried out in the summer. It's a fairly large triangle of about 20 yards each side. It takes four days to fill with a hose and then two days to drain. The clay base (of unknown...
