Ping: Tom la Bron by Bob in PA
Hi Tom, I'm one of the people that you sent lilies to, about a month and a half ago. I'm just wondering if you happen to have any shubunkins in the pond with the lilies? I went out to my lily pond and saw at least three 2 inch (including tail) baby shubunkins. Another question I have (for the...

When to add what by Nedra
I would start slowly with everything! I'll leave the plants to someone else... but I can address the fish. I was told to wait a month before adding fish... This is to let the water cure. You wont be sorry you waited. Oh yes... Understock! That is don't put more than a couple of goldfish in ......

closed cycle pond question by KoiDave
I got in a big arguement with my neighbor last night. He has seen my Koi pond and has decided that he wants one too. He found a contractor who tells him he can install a 1000 gallon Koi pond and waterfall that can support Koi without the need to feed them. The Koi will live off the plants and...

Veggie Filter Input ideas by Bill
What would be the best way to distribute the water input in a 500gal veggie filter? The filter is 5'x6'x2' and I have plumbed in a 2' pipe along one side 2" off the bottom. Also, I have installed a 3" bottom drain. My initial idea was to run 2" pipe along the bottom with 3\8" holes drilling in to...

Blue Koi by Bob in PA
Still working on a picture. He/She is still small, about 5 inchs, but the blue is still the same. I bought it as an import, I beleive belgian (sp?) or some b name close to that for only $7.95. It also has some shiny scales on its head. I bought another one with it, and it has the same...

Redoing pond by Neil Law
I've hired someone to come in and fix my pond (I'm tired of the sides collapsing all the time) and to add 2 new bogs. Naturally I'm going to have to remove all of my fish. I have 2 full size koi, 5 baby koi and about 20 gold fish of varying sizes. My plan was to fill a 100 gallon stock tank with...

snake in the bush by [email protected]
For the last couple of days, a little Northern brown snake (a/k/a DeKay's snake) has been making himself at home in trumpet vine next to part of the garden, just up the steps from the pond. Cute little bugger. Unfortunately, he's about four feet too small to eat squirrrels of any size (I'd love to...

Did roofliner make your fish sick? by Phyllis and Jim Hurley
We have gone round and round on the subject of roof vs pond liners. Among our number, there must be a bunch of users of roofing liner. How about weighing in? Phyllis and I have roof liner for two of our smaller ponds and for the streams. No toxicity we can detect. Jim --

Son found one of this yr.'s baby toads... by jammer
He brought it to me in a glass. Must be an inch or so from head to bottom. Still pretty dark colored. Real cute and glad to see at least one survived. When they just disappear, you never know WHAT happened to them. I hope there are several others. I'll know in a few years as the toad population...

size question by Priscilla McCullough
I am hoping to re-do the pond over when fall hits and go bigger. I have a couple Koi in my pond a guy gave me and they would be happier in a bigger pond. Mine right now is 5x10 or 11 can't remember and 3 feet deep. I am wanting to go 12x18 and 3ft on my side and 3 1/2 on the other. Either...

Leaf catching screen by John Bachman
As Labor Day approaches I am thinking of how to construct a screen to catch the leaves and pine needles. My pond is 8' X 10'. I have plenty of 3/4" plastic netting (used to keep birds off the raspberries) but what kind of frame should I put it on? I am thinking of a flat wooden frame but that...

What is Jog-A-Thon fundraiser (OT) by Phyllis and Jim Hurley
Several ponders have asked what Jog-A-Thon is at the bottom of our posts. It is a fundraiser that I (Jim) put together for Phyllis' school and have begun to do with other public and private schools. Helps them raise scholarship money, etc. Not as satisfying as ponding, but satisfying as it helps...

Five raccoons at once!! by Robyn Rhudy
You guys think you have raccoon problems! Most nights, a raccoon or sometimes two comes to eat leftover cat and dog food. As for my 8 ponds (yes, 8), they, as far as I know, have not gotten any fish in 6 years (my secret? Cliffs, lots of plants, who knows) but do sometimes leave snails around...

Shareholders Pond; Weekend Plans by BenignVanilla
OK, so gonna do some work on the pond this weekend. I have already moved most of the plants from the VF over to the main pond. I have to move the mass of frogbit and duckweed out too. I plan to build a sandbag wall across the center of the VF, so I can then pump the water up to a high level,...
