Zone 10, Liner-Killer Plants? by
Lynn Strickland
I'm in Zone 10, just digging the hole, but wondering:
What are the plants that you definitely don't want near your pond ?
I know that a Queen palm eats-up liners. Any others that I should
definitely avoid in close proximity? Any comments specifically on: Fig,
Ficus, Pygmy Date Palm?
Thanks!

newbee Boi-filter question by
O3raledale
Hello all,
I've been reading here for weeks and learned much from all of you and my little
250 gallon pond is doing great. Thanks! I just picked up the remainder of my
stone today and I'm planning on moving my bio-filter back about a foot and left
about a foot. I'll then add an extension to my...

new pond owner questions by
Deswinds
This is my first pond and although familiar with aquariums this is a bit
different.
1 - Do I need to remove the goldfish and shubunkins to an indoor aquarium or
something for the winter? It gets cold here but not terribly. Can dip below
zero in the winter but not often. Snow rarely sits on the...

Pruning my Lotus by
BenignVanilla
My second bloom never made it. For some reason it fell over, and once it
touched the water, it was done for. I don't know if I bumped it, or a fish
bit the stalk or what. I have another coming, and two on my dwarf lotus, so
I am not too upset.
Anyway, can I cut this stalk off or will the then open...

thinking about your plant problems,, when purchasing plants for the
pond look for plants that are native or near native to the natural
water sources in your area.
I hav had no luck introducing "non wild" plants into my pond system.

H20 changes vs. SA - which is better? by
Mike Miller
I refill my pond with nutrient-filled tap water, which I'm sure adds to my
SA problem. Eventually I may install a rainwater collector, but until then,
what do you think: do the benefits of water changes outdo the harm they may
do to my SA population?
I had been doing 5-10% water changes weekly,...

need find cheap (or free) good filter medium for my 436 Gallon filter by
K30a
I'm not sure of the cost but I think it is relatively inexpensive. We use black
vinyl screening that comes in 25 ft. rolls at Lowes. It acts as both mechanical
and biological (veggie is the monster water hyacinths we float on the top).
With 50 yards in a 150 gallon stock tank we clean it once a...

Koi Jumping out of Pond by
RED1102
Has anyone ever had any of their fish jump out of the pond? When I came home
from work today my son told me my big koi had jumped out of the pond. He was
flipping around on the patio, thank goodness my son was home and got him back
in right away. Mind you my pond is half above ground so he had to...

Pond, National Zoo in DC by

We took the kids to the National Zoo this past weekend, and near the Ape
house under the Orang Utan (which is two words, I never knew that) towers,
there is a great little pond. I say little, but it was easily 20 feet
across. I too some pictures, and thought I'd share them with the...

koi and plants? by
LYNN FORRES
new to koi - 5 nice sized koi in 700 gallon cement pond - the local experts
tell us that you never put plants in with koi because they tear them up and
make a mess. Seems like they would like a little shelter with plants.
Please share your experience with us. TIA L.
