Default Koi Jumping out of Pond

Has anyone ever had any of their fish jump out of the pond? When I came home
from work today my son told me my big koi had jumped out of the pond. He was
flipping around on the patio, thank goodness my son was home and got him back
in right away. Mind you my pond is half above ground so he had to jump up &
over the stone wall. He seems to be ok, he's swimming around. He lost a few
scales, is there anything I can do to make sure he's OK?I would hate to loose
him he's about 15ins long and bright irridescent orange & black.

Carole, Check your water parameters. I have a 9 year old
Koi who would jump all the time.... until I checked the water
quality. Sure enough, the water was not as good as it should
have been. Why just one jumped I have no idea.
Since that time I have made sure to add the proper Dechlor
product. '
Good Luck!

Carole,

With scales knocked off and having most of the slime coat removed by
flopping around, the fish is going to be very susceptible to ulcers. Get
some KoiZyme and treat the pond. Keep a close eye on the fish and check
back if you see any sores or other distress coming on.

Default Koi Jumping out of Pond

I came home from work one day a few yrs back and found one of my koi dead
beside my pond - I asked the place I bought the koi from and they said koi
have a tendency to jump if the water gets too warm and that was before my
lilies had grown much - It hasn't happened since I have had ~70% coverage
of the pond surface since , in the hottest months (SW Ont)
