Pond-Cad by
Chris Herring
For a couple of weeks now I have been doodling various pond / landscape
layouts on the backs of envelopes and whatever else happens to be nearby. I
have decided it is time to get out a tape measure and start making a more
accurate drawing of my backyard space. My lot has lots of elevation...

Plants 101 by
BenignVanilla
OK, first let me pre-flame myself for asking this question. I know I should
do my own research, and google up old posts, but I figured we have not
hashed this out lately, so it may be kinda safe.
OK, here goes...
I have ignored all of the "how do I make my plants grow" threads, because my
plants...

Opinions on filter design/pipework layout etc.... by
Iain Miller
Planning my first pond & got to the point of working out how to hook up the
filters etc......
I was planning on having an external filter at the same level as the pond so
that water will flow into it & then putting some kind of pump on the clean
side - the logic being that it would be better to...

A Quest for Fire...I mean...Potash by
BenignVanilla
I called two more garden centers yesterday. One can order Potash, and the
other may have 2 bags in storage. I have to call back today. I was told by
one that it was difficult to get because it is the prime ingredient in bombs
used to blow up buildings in Oklahoma. I don't know if that is true,...

Can pond water make a dog/cat sick? by
dkat
Someone I know just tore out their preformed pond because they thought their
dog got sick from drinking the water (I'm not complaining since I now have a
new pond...I just have to decide where to put it and start digging). Does
anyone know if this is possible? DK

Lightning Strike by
BargainTraveller
This past weekend I pulled my back out putting in a water pond in my
backyard. When it was installed I have to admit that I did find it
relaxing to sit on the back porch and listen to the water while doing
my devotionals. I actually felt pretty good about how it was turning
out.
Until Monday...

Comanche Lily by
Patti
Hi all,
Just checking in. The pond is crystal clear, the bio-filter you gave me
help with last summer is established. The fish are healthy and happy and
yesterday I got the first Comanche Bloom of the season. This is a changeable
Lily. Yesterday was yellowish, today will be peachish, and...

Pool vs Pond by
K30a
Hello Chris,
Welcome to rec.ponds!
There have been some really wonderful pool to pond conversions. Somebody has
links to some websites and will probably post them for you to look at.
How serious of a problem will the leaves cause, if they are
allowed to fall into the pond?
Big problem....

Why would a Koi loose it's colours? by

My Brother is also a porg with very nice Koi collection.

my small pond is out of control by
Judy
From what I've been told, you need at least (minimum) of 100 gallons
per Koi. Depending on your filter system, you might be overloading
your pond. If I were you I would have no more than three Koi in that
size pond. Do you have plants? Thats very important. My first pond was
80 gallons with three...

treating concrete? by
Tom La Bron
Marilyn,
In a word, Yes. Your local library probably has some good books on pond
building and concrete is always discussed or do a search on rec.ponds, I
have done several messages about curing concrete in ponds for the list.

Best way to catch Koi by

About a month ago, I cleaned out my pond and when the water was low, netted

about a foot in size, and now I wish to move them back to my original
pond--problem is, they used to move up near the top of the water in...

How long can fish by
Russ and Cathy
stay in my pond without the pump working? We had a power surge today that
must have burnt out my pump. Will the fish be ok for lets say 6 hours until
my husband gets home tonight?
Thanks,
