I really don't have a big algae problem but I don't mind having them eating

I read in some places they prefer soft water and might eat java moss...

Homemade fish food by
erik
I recently tried making homemade fish food for my Clownfish.
I used about:
10 whole shrimp
30 small freeze dried krill
1 oz fresh salmon
1 oz frozen whitefish
..25 oz flake food
..25 oz kelp pellets
I blended these into a paste and added gelatin.

question about trickle filters... by
Jon Pike
I've recently 'upgraded' my tank to include a trickle filter design.
Basically, two pvc tubes take water in from just below the water level and
carry it down to the sump below. It's then pumped back up to the other side
of the tank. My question is, how do I make the input less noisy? I put...

What Are the Odds?!? by
Mort
I got in to work this morning and found that overnight, one of my tanks
bottom glass "gave out".
I didnt realise what had happened right away...
I had assumed that the bottom seal gave out so naturally I took everything
out and was going to re-seal the tank.
I was amazed when I got to the bottom...

is there a THRILL in keeping fish? by
BW
If you search for thrill in rec.aquaria you get some interesting
results. The thrill of owning rare breeds, the thrill of keeping
difficult varieties, the thrill of feeding live bait to carnivorous
fish, the thrill of your first cichlid breeding... I'd really like to
know more about people's most...

Surface tension by
Graham Ramsay
Can anybody help my comprehension with this please?
Many web sites (and a few answers in newsgroups) say
that using an airstone will break the surface tension
(which it surely will) and thus increase the exchange of
gas. Almost as if the surface tension was preventing
the gas from moving between...

Loss of kribs fry by
Bob K.
Heres is my two cents. Make sure that they are not getting sucked into the
filter, you did say much about the setup, and definitely leave the fry with
the parents. If you remove them they will surely die.
Horsepucky! Tell that one to all the breeders.
You can raise all fish without their...

Iron Test Kit Question by
rapdor
Greetings I'm trying to create a heavily planted freshwater tank and
read that iron deficiency is commonly a problem. Also that pH above 7
causes plants to be unable to use the iron that may be available in the
tank. So maybe I should buy an iron test kit. But before doing so, I'd
like to...
