actually fish food is almost 50% ash... go figure.

What? Fish food doesn't contain ash - where does it say that on the
ingredients. It doesn't - it says it on the Analysis.

Where the analysis says x% Ash (and the Aquarian I have here says 13%
rather than 50%) it means that if you heat 100gm of the food at a high
temperature so it combusts you will be left with 13gm of ash. So you can
get 13% ash out, they don't put 13% ash in.

The ash measure is am indication of the levels of minerals in the food.

You're right, never been known here! It just gives me the shivers seeing the
lifestyle these critters enjoy when they're playing in the garden to think
of that stuff finding its way into my tank! As you mention it, I'm probably
a bit paranoid :)

Hi,

I like to leave a bit of the lid on my oscars tank open so some bugs
can fall in during the night when the light is on. I also feed him any
bugs that I find around the house.

Are there any particular bugs that might be poisonous to an oscar?

So much bug pesticide around these days, I would think this is not a good
thing to do? I feed my big Severums garden worms every once in awhile. Free,
easy to find, and very filling! LOL

Does anyone know why the rest of this thread has been taken off the server.
It seems harmless enough (quite interesting in fact)

Why would a news server move, take, moderate, posts on a news group.
perhaps you should check your "delete" settings.
click on "message" in the top header, then rule for message, and clear
everything except "where the form line contains people"

Thank you all of you for you replies. I don't really know why it did this,
the thread has now completely vanished, yet at the same time I can still
access posts from 20th April (Pike disappeared etc). Maybe I will try
accessing from google or cichlidfish.com.
Regards, Rosie
