Cories Flashing/Scratching, even tho treating
Hi, I noticed my cories were flashing & scratching this past weekend, so I
started a treatment for parasites with a product called Maracide (contains Aniline Green - synonym for Malachite Green). The package says to treat for 5 days, but after 3 days of treatment, I have noticed that my Pearl Gouramis have now also started scratching. What does this mean? Is the Maracide not being effective? Could there be another problem that the Maracide does not treat? I have not noticed any fungus or injuries to the fish or any parasites that I can "see", so I am completely lost! Any advice would be most appreciated! HELP! Thanks! Kathy |

fish scrape for many reasons, not just because they are sick... sometimes
ammonia can do it, pH being too acidic can cause this, and nitrite is said to have an irritating feeling.... Before I treat (especially when no signs of illness are VISIBLE) a large water change can fix all the out of balance water parameters, then if I notice a problem, treat with the appropriate meds... but meds are a LAST RESORT!!! I only treat meds when I see whitespot, mouth fungus, fin rot, or something I can see.... flashing/scraping can be from bad water conditions.... my advice would be to do a 25-50% water change, and watch them carefully for a day... if they get better, you got lazy with your water changes and the water quality was getting poorer as the days went by..... Good luck.. "HarleyGirl" wrote in message ...
