Tap Water or NOT

I think for 20-$40 you can pick up a TDS (Total Disolved Solids)
monitor. This will tell you exacly how well your RO/DI filter is
working. When the readings start going up... time to replace...

New Reef Setup...help!

Hi,

Just a few comments...

1) You need to have at LEAST 1lb of live rock / gallon. 1.5 - 2lbs /
gallon would be best.

2) If you are going to run the wet/dry, be sure to remove the bio
balls. ...

Red Lobo looking bad

I would get a sea squirt and feed it directly. Try some mysis or brine
shrimp. You could also throw some cytopleze in there. I'm not
positive, but I think brains feed mostly at night.

Lighting question

George,

Try www.reefgeek.com. Check out the Ice Cap T5 Retrofits. I think if
you are only going with 3 bulbs you could get a 660 and a 440 ballast
for the day / night effect. It's a little...

Russ,

The EASIEST way to rid your tank of excess nitrates is with a refugium
and some macro algae. I highly suggest chaeto. Since I added chaeto
to my sump my nitrates have consistently been at 0...

Newbie question about green algae

Gil,

Keep in mind that GHA comes from excess nutrients in the tank. If you
don't have some means of exporting nurtients you will get nuciance
(sp?) algae. A refugium is GREAT for this. If you can...

Lighting Question

I'm not sure that 192w of PowerCompact lighting will let you keep what
you want in that tank. I would HIGHLY reccomend going with the 36"
fixture from Aquatinics.

Lighting Question

Also,

What are the dimensions of your tank? Watts / gallon isn't all that
accurate. Deeper tanks need more light (depending on what you want to
keep).

I think you should run the 70w MH. That's not too strong. Keep in
mind you are trying to simulate the sun. With that MH you'll be able
to keep SPS and Clams.
