No I don't feed it actually. I've heard from a couple people that they,
personally, never fed theirs. I then read that they can be fed but their
main source, and only necessary source, for food...

Just did some testing and got a problem. My water hardness has always been
on the low side of "normal" but not now.

pH is 8.4
Phosphates aren't registering
Calcium is at least 440
Ammonia, Nitrite...

Rock,

Your fish are hardy which means they can handle a couple of days + without
food. If your fish are desperate enough they will go in the trap. Go a day
without feeding then the next day set...

Using a canister filter and an overflow for a sump?

You need to make sure the pump will push water upwards to at least equal the
water flow rate coming downwards.

Several water pumps include a chart to show water flow going upwards at 3',
