has anyone ever tried using the bubble nest of another betta to get the
one you are breeding started. I have a betta I am breeding and he usually
has a bubble next however since trying to breed him he has refused to
build one, I put some of another's betta bubble nest in there to see if
he gets the clue, I have read of this being done but never did it
before...is it likely to work

I don't think that will work. If you set him up in a 10g tank with 5" of
water, plants (preferably floating plants) and keep him at 82F and very
well fed, he should make a nest. If not, then he's not ready to breed or
something else is wrong.
They make nests for me but have never successfully bred here where the
water is very hard and alkaline.

Yeah I know how to breed them...not really the problem, but any way it
worked out about a half hour after putting the bubble nest from another
betta in there he started adding to it and made his own, so all is well, he
was a little preoccupied with her and I think forgot....the problem with him
is he is not mean at all, he has no problem with other fish i think
including betta's, he is just happy as can be to have her there....so its a
little strange, not like a normal spawn....they are just kind of hanging out
together at this point but he did get the idea and built on to the nest...
