Hello, I currently have a sick fish. I am going to quarantine her. I
want to try the 'bucket' quarantine where I move her from one bucket to
another with the big water changes. Sorry this is very vague. Does
anybody know a link to a site that explaines this or can anybody give
me a brief descripting of how it all works.

Thanks for your help
Mellie

I seem to recall this used as a technique to remove parasites from goldfish.
It's extremely stressful for the fish. I wouldn't recommend it. Over the
years I've heard that the stress caused to the fish sometimes killed them,
finished them off. Don't you have 3 fish in the same tank? If so, and this
one has parasites, then they all most likely have parasites.

Is this the fish that just stays in the middle of the tank?

Hi, Koi-Lo, I feel like you know me :-) Yes, its the one that is
sitting in the middle of the tank. I noticed, this morning, that she
looks like around 4-5 of her scales are 'missing'. The aren't together
but in different areas of her body. The look like bald patches. Then
I noticed that (please excuse the bad terminology) one side of her
tail has 'gone'. Her tail is like a butterfly shape (she is ryukin).
Where the top joins the bottom to make butterfly shape, one side is
nicely joined but the other now looks like it is in '2 halves'. I hope
you can picture this as I know I'm not describing this at all well.
She has a gorgeous white pearl colour and I wandered it was tail rot
whether I would be able to see it as clearly as I did when it was on my
black moor. I am about to move her into a quarantine tank and just
observe closely with daily water changes. I'm currently aging some
water and have put an airstone in there. I've also put some stress
coat in help with the stress of moving. I'm at a loss as to what to do
with her. I've grown so attached to my 4 goldfish. She really isn't
her 'old self'. The other 3 are doing well and I've checked their fins
and tails but can see no sign of recessing.

Any help soooo greatfully recieved.
Thanks Melllie

2 of the pics are of the fish's ok side of her tail. Her right side.
The others are of the left not so good side.

I can't see anything wrong with that fish.

Hi, bit vague on this that's why I posted. Something to do with having
2 or 3 buckets of aged water and transfering the fish to a different
bucket each day. Thats about all I can remember. Have seen people
post that it was successful but I wanted more details before I tried
something like that.

It looks like a piece of her tail was bitten out or is formed slightly
different than on one side but I see no signs of disease. Is she scratching
herself on the gravel or decorations (called flashing)? Does she hang at
the surface at all looking like she has trouble breathing? Are there any
other symptoms?

Hi, maybe the pictures aren't that clear. one side of the tail goes in
at the middle almost down to the 'stump' (bad terminology). The other
side side is really full and nowhere near the 'stump'. Looking at her
tail you there is no symmetry at all. The tail on her left side looks
almost like it is in 2 parts where the right side is one piece. HOpe
that explains better.

==========================
I see what you mean but I don't see any fungus or bloody streaks..... is
she exhibiting any other symptoms at all? Is her stool normal dark strings
or pale, white and bubbly?

Koi-Lo.....
