Default New Rope Fish

I recently bought a rope fish (I call him Earl) and I need to know what
kinds of fish make good tankmates befor I go out and buy them.

Current info on rope fish:
1. Don't buy anything smaller than its mouth unless you plan to feed it
2. likes dark, sandy places
3. needs space
4. can escape if not properly sealed up
5. is nocturnal
6. scares the hell out of people when not properly warned
(muhahahahaha!)

My first reply didn't go through for some reason.
Earl will do much better with another one or two of his species. They
do great with any community fish large enough that they can't eat. Not
so good with territoral or predatory type large fish. Larger goldfish
also make good tankmates.
They like hiding places - caves, rocks, etc.
They eat meaty foods - snails, feeder fish, beef heart, shrimp pellets,
shrimp, frogs, earth worms, guppys, swordtails, platties, mollies,
tetras, etc. ;-) ...... Frank

And a foot long ropefish should have AT LEAST a 60 gallon aquarium.

These guys do better in a group, so you may want to get him a couple
friends.

If you want to keep the nocturnal theme a big knife fish might be cool.
Keep your tank very dimly lit and you should see everybody all the time.

Otherwise you can keep him with pretty well any other large peaceful
fishes. A few examples could be silver dollars, large bushfish, large adult
gouramis, large not-too-aggressive cichlids like severums, blue acara, and
some geophagus.
