First off I wanna thank those that helped me here before with my hurt
platy problem I had. Well heres whats happened so far. After the death
of the second female Sunset Platy (was left with my 2 Zebra Danio,
Algea Eater and final Platy), I Decided to get her at least 2 more tank
mates ( a male and female platy of some colorful variety, there were
greens, yellows, oranges and reds with black) at wal-mart and 3 Corys.
Along with some newly planted aquatic plants I really made my 10 Gal
tank seem alive again.

Everything went so well (I even found 2 baby Platies after a while).
Well come last week after I get back from a week long trip 9mom watched
over them) I started noticing one of the Cory (smallest one) was
floating on the surface too much of the time. Thinking something was
wrong with the water (my filter stopped filtering...it gets covered
with green stuff...apperantly from this one plant that its leaves die
off from time to time). So I fix it, he seems to calm down but shortly
a few days ago I wake up to see him dead. I carefully watch the tank
the next few days and everything was fine, though my new orange/black
platy was becoming kinda isolated and either hiding a lot or staying up
in the corner of the tank. Well another Cory started to act up, and
this time I noticed little white spots. Well, I didn't know what that
was, but to be sure I used some Melafix thinking that would help. Well
it appeared to be until he died 2 days ago...

Now my orange platy has spots, and my male red one as well got them
today after I got home kinda late. He really seems irritated, shes just
staying at the bottom just what appears to be "relaxing" but I can't
think of that as being good. Fortunately the other Cory, the 2 babies
and the Danios seem fine, but I read up on possble diseases or
parasites and the one that fits it well is Ich. Tomorrow I'm gonna get
a heater and warm the water, maybe some medicine as well (any you guys
recommend that won't harm my fishes?). I also read salt is good, what
kind of salt? I don't think table salt is good, and how much would be
sufficient to not stress them? Thank you in advance

Use heat at 85F and 1 tsp/gallon salt OR an ich medicine but not both.
I usually use QuickCure. I dose daily until the spots are gone, and
then every three days for the next two weeks to kill off the remaining
parasites in the tank. If you use the heat and salt, wait a week before
cooling the tank down and lowering the amount of salt.

Whoops. Missed a question. Any normal salt is fine as long as it
doesn't contain yellow prussate of soda. And yes, it sounds like ich.

Ah I see, alright I set up a heater and placed a tablet of Ich
medicine. when removing the filter I noticed it wasn't filtering at
all. This spongy brownish stuff was all over it, blocking water from
passing thru it. In the filter area right before the filter itself,
these strands of the stuff were triving, anyone know what this stuff is?

Probably a normal mixture of algae and fish poo. Scrub it off as part
of your filter maintenance.

Ok its been 2 weeks and I just placed the last tablet of ich medicine
on the tank. My infected fishes are now spotless and seem healthier but
alas my orange Palty didn't make it. Well surprise surprise my big Cory
was dead yesterday when I got home...but his death was weird. He was
almost pure white, all his coloration was gone. I noticed before there
were spots of his body missing some color but I just thought he was
being harrassed by my Algea Eater. Anyone got any ideas what caused his
death?

Fish go pale after they die. There's no telling.
