Snowflake eels escaping?

Exactly how concerned should I be about a snowflake eel escaping? I'm
starting a 75 gallon fish-only tank and want to include a snowflake
eel. My tank is well covered, but I do have two openings on the back
of my tank to allow for filtration hoses and a hang-on protein skimmer
and a heater and powerheads. The openings are about 2" wide and 10"
long (long and narrow). I know an eel CAN escape through a hole that
size, but WILL he? I've heard stories about people waking up to find
a dried stiff eel on the floor next to the tank. Are stories like
this the exception or the rule?

I recently bought a snowflake. The LFS had the tank completly closed. When I
put him in my tank he was on the floor within 15 seconds before I even got
it covered. I have a divider in the tank he can go under to feed seperately
from the puffer. The first time he went over the top of the divider to get
to the other side. Since then he has not tried to get out but I am keeping
egg crate on the top just in case.

My snowflake jumped out about 6 months ago. I am lucky I was still up
to put her back in the tank. I covered the back of the tank with some
aluminium and she has not jumped out since. They are wonderful and easy
to take care of, also they pretty much get along with everything but
shrimp and crabs.
