So, I finally got my light kit and built a box and hung them from my
ceiling. Setup: 2 X 250 Watt Metal Halide 10,000K 2 X 54 Watt(I think) Actinic T5 flourescent. That's mounted in a metal reflector. 4 X Blue LED lights for my nighttime pleasure. I built a wooden box (lights are separated from wood by metal and spacers provided so not a fire risk(I hope)) And put a 4.5" Radio Shack Fan to evacuate the hot air. There is a piece of glass shielding the whole bit from the water. Questions: 1. How high above the waterline should the lights hang? 2. How long should each of the lights be on? I understand there is a cycle I should follow...Like 1 hour actinic....then X hours both...then 1 hour actinic. Not sure what the recommendations are. As with all things in the hobby opinions are varied. Thought I'd try here. |

1. How high above the waterline should the lights hang? About 6 or more inches above the tank. I like using a chain to hook it on the cieling hooks so that it is adjustable. Just adjust it untill you get the right spread of light that you want in the tank. Wayne Sallee Wayne's Pets |
