Default African Cichlid Compatibility (Ps. Socolofi)

hi,

I have a 125-gallon aquarium (currently in the nitrite spike phase of
fishless cycle process) which I plan to stock with the following once the
tank has been completely cycled:

6 Yellow labs
6 Acei
6 Socolofi
1-2 Synodontis Eupterus

Will the Ps. Socolofi too aggressive for this mix?
I have read that a sole Ps. Socolofi in a mbuna community tank may become a
bullying tyrant, but will six Socolofi diffuse the aggression or only make
it worse (for the Acei & Labs)?

Hi Kaybee

I fell for these cute little blue Socolofi's too and save yourself the
trouble. If you have them in with that mix you will NEVER have a calm tank.
They WILL constantly hound each other. Malawi Mbuna suck

Try it and see ......you can always take them back to the lfs or swop with
another fellow hobbyist at a later time. Keep in mind that short of
completely tearing the tank down Mbuna are extremely difficult to
remove!!!!!

Coralife makes a product called "The Trap". If your fish are food motivated
they'll swim right in and bang, you caught them. I had to catch Blue Damsels
for removal. Like a marine tank an African tank usually has lots of rock
work and crevices for the fish to hide out making it impossible to catch
them.

The Trap was the only thing that worked for me.

Mbuna Suck... ??? I guess your entitled to your opinion, and you based it on
the ability to net them.. C'est la vie... Socolofi are fairly territorial
as opposed to aggressive.. Socolofi tend to fend their territory pretty
darn good.. Acei's with the lab's.. Not another fish I would have in the
tank eithier..I suppose when the Acei got big enough they would eat the
annoying little socolofi.. Now the yellow labs, nice colours.. Keep the
yellows and find some nice peacocks, do some research on the type of
peacocks you take to, as some of the Auloncara can get quite defensive of
its territory as well.. There are some decent cichlid sites on the net that
would give a lot of information regarding a community.. A 125g is a great
sized tank for a Mbuna tank.. Lots of fun and happy happy fish keeping..

Regards...
