Default importance of tank frame?

Personally I do not think they add any real structural integrity to an
tank unless its of euro brace design. If its just around the perimeter
of a typical tank with no euro brace I view it as a means of support
for a hood / lighjt etc, and to finish off the glass edges. But I
suppose it may add some strength, but would not loose any sleep if
mine was missing . Fire may or may not have affected the silicone
itself. So just becarefull if and when yu do fill it back up again.
YOU can get replacement frames from the manufacturer. Just call AGA
and tellem what tank yu hjave and order a frame. Since its busted
anyhow, its easy to fisnish removing it. ONce plastic is removed,
scrape the glass wel with a single edge razor blade, apply bead of
silicone in plastic frame and stick it back onthe tanlk. IIRC the
frame for a 29 gal AGA tank wa laike $10 bucks.....and a tube of
silicone at a big box store was about $5 bucks, and it wa repaired
without breaking tank down. This wa about 3 years ago when I replaced
a frame on a 29 gal tank only because o f the hood assembly needed the
inside lip, and this tanak had most of it removed and trhe corner was
busted as well as a side panel, which I replaced along with the top
frame.

How important is the plastic frame on an All-Glass tank, the modern kind
with good silicone seals?

I had a small fire in my tank hood, and part of the frame melted, in
spots both on the top frame & bottom, on one end. I'm not sure how the
structural integrity of my tank is affected. I've only had it half-full
since then.

Thanks,

B
