I have a hair algae that nothing will eat all over my tank (even on snails).
Sally lightfoot, emerald crab, blue legs, scarlets, astrea, red legs, yellow tang and sailfin blennie won't touch this crap. I have to scrub with tooth brush to remove but it will grow back. I use phosphate remover but not all the time. I change 4 (5-6) gal buckets of water a month. Have wetdry using sock. Have Berlin skimmer too. 75 g tank up and running since nov. 07. My live rock is old but was clean when I just started this back up after a house remodel. rock was in barrel for 8 months. I was thinking about placing LR in a grey trashcan with the cover on it for a good month with a pump to recirculate the water to kill it. ANY IDEAS?? Tanks. |

I had some nasty algae issues myself, and still see some of it growing on the snail and whatnot...but as the tank has been up and running a little longer, it's become less and less of an issue. I think I hit around 8 or 9 months when I really noticed the drop off in terms of algae production. -- Big Habeeb (a.k.a. Mitch) I love woot.com and techbargains.com |

Mitch) I love woot.com and techbargains.com I would rather have a nasty case of hair algae than the ****ing crotch crickets that I got from screwing KurtG. Man do those ****ers itch..........As for your algae problem, just dump a gal of chlorox inthe tank and that will fix any algae problem in a matter of minutes. Works for me and its what these dickheads recomend most times anyhow. Big Habeeb the butthole licker anfd fart sucker does not have a clue. He is just a wanna be rag head. |

I'd slowly take them out and let your skimmer remove the nutrients before they turn into nitrates. Also, your phosphates are still high. They should be undetectable or that is the way that I run. Also, I'd dose with kalk water. Just get a drip. It seems that if you can get coraline to grow, it will out compete the hair algae. I still have some hair algae growing on some snails, but other then that things have cleaned up nicely. How often do you feed? You'll probably need to ration food more tightly as well and get your nutrients down. --Kurt |
