Default are all severums female?

I have one gorgeous big gold, and one green severum that matured
together and finally paired off to mate. The gold lays eggs.... they both
tend them. 3-4 tries and no spawn. I separate them for awhile. Lo and behold
the green one lays eggs while alone. They are both obviously females. I buy
another lone green one. I wait till it gets big enough and put it alone with
the gold. It takes a few months of in fighting, but finally the gold lays
eggs. They are very attentive parents. In the 3rd day, the eggs are all
gone. I know this to be a common pattern with young egg layers. I figure
I'll wait another few months for the new green to mature. 2 days later the
new green lays her own eggs! My problem is finding a large reasonably
priced severum in a LPS to try out. So far my luck is strictly female!
LOL...

If you have a local Petco, ask them to order you some. The ones I got
are pretty large and were priced for $12.99 but were on sale for half
off (plus I work there and got my employee discount). I can't guarantee
they'll be as large as the ones I got, though.
