I need to make some siphons and discharges for two pumps I bought. Regular PVC
is white and looks a bit gaudy. ABS is black and hides well, but I haven't found
small stuff (1/2"). I also don't know how safe it is for marine tanks. The best
stuff available seems to be the grey schedule 80 PVC. Any other ideas? I'm in
the U.S.

something that I have thought about using is clear acrylic tubing. I
was looking at clear PVC, but it is very expensive. Clear acrylic does
not have the strength of the clear pvc, but it has som pretty neat
applications (fish bridge!). Just a thought...

Oh yeah, I have started reading some of these posts. I am freshwater
guy for the time being and spend most time reading and posting in "the
freshwater aquarium" group.

It should be safe. ABS is Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene It's not as
resilient as pvc, but would not be toxic.

After further checking, I've been unable to find anything smaller than 1.25" in
ABS. That eliminates it for me. Thanks for the info.

OK, I'm the one who is always going to have weird ideas so here's what I've
been thinking. Coat the PVC in silicon and roll it in crushed coral,
position some live rock and maybe it will somewhat blend in. Please offer
suggestions.

Not bad. It's a shame that I just tossed the last of my crushed coral substrate.
