After pulling it out to divide, I found my Jack Wood has 5 buds coming to
the surface. Of course, here in south Texas we don't really have winter
so...

You're lilies are way ahead of mine. Mine have some reddish new leaves but
most are well under the surface. One lily behind the house has leaves just
under the surface all winter. I wish I knew the names of these plants.
Some bloom so much better than others.

Even when the days are warmer our nights are still getting pretty darn cold

I checked the lilies out behind the house today and some have leaves on the
surface now! I can't believe how fast they grow this time of year. I just
bought Jobe's Rose Spikes and will soon be fertilizing them. :-) I break
each spike in 3 pieces - works great and a lot cheaper than pond plant tabs.
