I have a small 10 gal nano reef setup with a
marineland filter w/bio-wheel and also a Jebo protein skimmer. About 9lbs of live rock a feather duster, a few peppermint shrimp and two hermit crabs. As I like to watch what's going on I had purchased a magnifier glass and that is when I noticed very tiny but 100's of whitish/clear bugs on the side of my glass. I'd say 10-20 would fit on a pin head. Anyone know what they are, and do I have a problem, or just another food source without the right fish to eat them? Thanks John -- Dr5000 | ø¤°`°¤ø,¸¸¸,ø¤°`°¤ø,¸¸¸,ø¤°`°¤ø,¸¸,ø¤°`°¤ø,¸¸¸,ø¤° `°¤ø,¸¸,ø¤°`°¤ø | ((((º`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸. ((((º ·´¯`·. , .·´¯`·.. I recently noticed the same type of creatures in my tank. From what I've
read on Wet Web Media they're some form of zooplankton or amphipods. Nothing to be alarmed about. I think they're rock hitchhikers. Here's the link to the article(s). http://www.wetwebmedia.com/planktonfaqs.htm "surewest" wrote in message ... Anyone know what they are, and do I have a problem, or just another food source without the right fish to eat them? Probably copepods. Part of the zooplankton - normal stuff in a healthy reef tank. |

![]() Thanks, A 10gal is so sensitive, I just got worried and thought I had some type of infestation. Glad it's normal. Here are some images of these tiny white dots I saw in my
son's tank: http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod1.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod2.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod3.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod4.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod5.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepod6.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepods.jpg http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0305/copepods2.jpg Copepods are part of the food chain. If you dose your tank with live phytoplankton, the copepods will eat it. And some fish eat copepods, such as wrasses and mandarins. The circle of life... even in a 10g nano. ![]() Marc surewest wrote: Thanks, A 10gal is so sensitive, I just got worried and thought I had some type of infestation. Glad it's normal. Yes, you can buy them from some websites, such as
SeaPods.org. You pour them into your refugium where they can breed in safety.
