Hi guys / girls
Just wanted to introduce myself. I have a tropical fish tank that I have been running for 15 years. I was running a Marine Fish Tank for 2 years, which I have now broken down. I am now turning my 4 x 2 x 2 (300 litres) tank into a fancy gold fish tank. Yesterday I filled the tank up, and am now in the waiting process for a week to 10 days to do some tests and see if I can go ahead with putting some Orandas in there. I have been reading a lot about Orands in the past month, what I would like to know about is how many fish you add at one time? Cheers Tracy |

Cheers Tracy Tracey, With such a big tank (approx 75 Gallons) I would advise adding 1 maybe 2 at the most at a time. I will however suggest only stocking 6 Orandas maximum, 5 would be better. Then try for around 25% water changes per week. Good luck! ![]() |

![]() and am now in the waiting process for a week to 10 days to do some tests and see if I can go ahead with putting some Orandas in there. Your tank will LOOK stable, but it won't be until you have the goldfish living in it. As soon as you introduce your fish, your nitrogen cycle will begin in earnest, your amonia will rise, followed by your nitrItes, then your nitrAtes. Bottom line - GO SLOW when adding your fish, depending upon the size of fish you add. The larger the fish you put in - you do have a beautiful, large tank - the more careful you need to be so that the cycle catches up with the waste output. Smaller fish = less waste, so you can put more in, but then you still need to think about their eventual size, so more than 6 is probably a bad idea in the long run. You may want to consider products called STABILITY or CYCLE. These products help establish the bio-filter while the tank is cycling and speeds up the process. I know many dispute this, but these have been invaluable to me when adding new fish. http://www.seachem.com/products/prod...Stability.html Good luck. n |
