year?

I can tell you what I've done so far. Removed the pot at the top of the
waterfall. Originally it was a fake flower pot filter my son had made.

Having no idea back then that it wouldn't even begin to filter a pond our
size once the fish grew. The next year (1997) the guys put in the barrel
filter, but plumb it into the back of the fake flower pot. (I wasn't home
at the time to prevent this.) This year we finally removed it at the same
time that son added a spigot into the output pipe so I can do water change
outs using the pond pump, rather than having to put an extra pump into the
pond. Now it is snap on hose, open spigot and turn on refill water, run
for
20-30 minutes.

Jan,

I'd like to hear more about your Flower Pot filter. I have one of the Cyprio
Bioforce things now and it's pain to clean twice a week. So I was
considering the Flower Pot thing or the half barrel filter. My pond is about
500 gallons max. Would the FP be big enough for this size pond?

Any tips.

This year I'm in front for a change :-)
New "raised" pond already in (10' x 8' x 3'), covered what was left of the
"lawn" with weed control fabric, slate, white, and bark chips.

Changed the Titan pump to the bigger pond, replacing it with a Cascade
(strictly speaking not a solids pump, but it works great ! ), used the
bottom of the Bioforce 2200UV with the top of a non-UV Bioforce 1100 feeding
into a Cyprio 4500 UV for the bigger pond.
Put the bottom of the non- UV 1100 under the lid of the bigger UV equipped
2200 and everything seems OK.

Added Candlestick Primulas, Fritilleries (Sp ?), and Marsh Marigold to go
with Mare's Tail, etc, and a new water lily for the bigger pond.

Bill, I normally only have to clean my Bioforce about every 2 months, and
that's been on all year with 4 goldfish in.
What pump are you using ?

Peter

Hi Peter,

I thought Nessie had gotten you.

I have a Laguna 1500 at the moment. Pond is about 500 gallons and nine GF.
The main problem seems to be Algae and silt.

Hi Peter,

How did you know about my Mother-in-law's summer job :-)

I've spent most of the winter tinkering with the fish tanks (more pumps,
more filters, not enough UV's ), but that's me started ponding again.

I'm using a Cyprio Titan 2000 and most of the silt etc stays in the pump
cage, though my bioforce 2200 needs cleaned more often now, so maybe it's
time for new sponges ?

I just set up a Betta tank in the office. I'm hoping to give the indoor GF
an auto water changer, once they go to the cottage (Pond).

Yes, mine needs a tune up kit, sponges and O-Ring. I'm toying with the idea
of a flower pot (skippy) filter instead. But the pot I bought seems rather
flimsy, I can see it cracking under the weight of the water.

Your Cyprio filter is much larger, likely explains the reduced cleaning.
