So I took Luka, the pathetic elderly dog and myself down to the pond to

see
how things were doing, and get some fresh air and all that. I haven't seen
Walter the memorial Koi for a few weeks since the spring sighting, and
there's always some anxiety about that, though he's big enough that if
something happened, I'd likely find the remains amid one of the beds of
cattails.
The "Mrs. Perry D. Slocum" lotus is ever so slowly unfurling her first

leaf
in the Northeastern chill, and the bass are staking claim to cleared spots
in the shallows for their own rites of spring.
But no Walter.
I decided to do some of the Tai Chi Chih movements from a class a few

years
ago for no particular reason (that's the best kind), facing the big old
wild black cherry tree on the other side of the pond. I hadn't even done
the first round of "Rocking Motion," when I became aware of a presence of
the fishy kind. Walter was right there within inches of the shore looking
at me. Satisfied that he'd been seen, my old friend slowly meandered off
toward cattails and shelter.
So all is well this little spot of the world. Things waking up, life
renewing, and one sometimes mournful Celt in a much brighter frame of

mind.

Life is good.
