I'd like to install a camera that I can access by remote computer to keep an
eye on my reef while I'm on vacation. I have someone taking car of it but I'd like a little extra piece of mind. Any suggestions or where to look? -- Mark -- "I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates who once said, "I drank what?". " Val Kilmer in Real Genius. |

Setting up a webcam is a piece of cake. The easiest way is to use Microsoft
Media Encoder 9. I have a cam on my tank while I'm at work. It's relaxing to watch while sitting at my desk. You'll need the webcam and the software ... (and of course an internet connection 8=) ) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx Have fun!! "Billy" wrote in message ... "Mark C." wrote in message ... Can anyone advise me about doing this with a Mac. I have an iSight that works with the laptop plus QuickTime 7, iMovie, Dreamweaver, and sundry pieces of software. Doesn't this require going through usual web page storage space? I don't think that's permitted on my system. Just putting a little 30 second digital movie on my web site is a pain because QuickTime is inserted in Dreamweaver with PC encoding and that doesn't work. So I have to get my fingers all sticky with mysterious html codes that I don't understand to remove tags that are superfluous and contradictory on my system. That plus an unwieldy service provider has prevented me from doing webcam broadcasting. I'd be very pleased if someone here could tell me how it's done or point me in a direction other than what's available on the Apple site, which I've read and doesn't address my stumbling blocks. I use a wireless internet cam:
http://www.dlink.com/products/category.asp?cid=58&sec=1 The DCS-5300W It has its own web server and can be moved via the web page. It connects to my wireless router so no wiring needed. I also use it as a security cam. It is programmed to watch my front door when we are not home and email pictures to my Gmail account of any motion it detects. Their software supports monitoring and recording up to 16 of the cameras from a single PC. When I finally get out of my apartment, I am going to have these all over my house and record to a central rack server hidden away somewhere... CW "Mark C." wrote in message ...
