Yes, but we really can't know how to filter your newsreader. Trick
number one is knowing how to see /all/ the header fields. In a
support group that I was involved in once, we had to block all the
"free" mail host sites for a while (yahoo, etc) to get rid of a
particular troll. It worked.

The woman's group I was on had one like we have now. There was no
blocking all his (or her, we never really knew) messages. Believe
me, there are ways the trolls and spammers get around killfiles.
In disgust, one of the people on that NG started a moderated group.
Most of us moved there and the troll ended up all but alone on the
original group. I checked that group just yesterday and I can see
it's never really recovered.

This particular troll from ARJ-W is very good at what he does as
he's been at it for at least 15 years now, long before I got
online. Most of his history is on Google. He used to torment the
people on the support groups and on the atheism groups.

Forging headers is his specialty - he almost had my last ISP fooled
back there in 1997. He also uses remailers to hold conversations
with himself (sock-puppets). I think rec.ponds is just stuck with
him until he tires of the game and moves on......

With this tool anyone can filter on anything.

It looks good... and a bit complicated.

McKoi.... the frugal ponder...
EVERYONE: "Please check people's headers for forgeries
before flushing." NAMES ARE BEING FORGED.
Do not feed the trolls.

I am using Hamster. But that's harder to handle.

Volunteers can setup a set of rules to work with nfilter and publish
that file for everyone to use.
Some words keep coming back, x-posts to specific newsgroups, threads
can be killed with the references header and some servers can be
banned.
All in all it's a great tool to get a newsgroup back on it's feet.
Not feeding trolls is hard but it's the only way. nfilter can help
with that.
