With the heat index over 100 for several days and even with the pools
covered with white sheets we lost 3 koi fry. The water gets up to 94 - 95 F. I added extra aerators and the sheets are about 16" above the water for good air circulation (what air?). What with these fry being subject to mid 30s (lost a bunch) in the spring and now these torrid temps - all that survive will be the toughest fish in TN. :-)) The GF seem to tolerate the hot water better than the koi. We are starting to see which have the diamond scales now and which are butterflies. The fin lengths are changing on the larger BF koi making them stand out from the others. The rosy-red fry have also grown and are about 1/3 the size of the parents. All the rosy-reds hang out around in the turbulance of waterfall. Some even get up into the upper 10 gallon basin. They have to be going up the small waterfall somehow. -- McKoi.... the frugal ponder... EVERYONE: "Please check people's headers for forgeries before flushing." NAMES ARE BEING FORGED.
