Default Maroon Clownfish eggs...

Hi,
I would like to share some info about my clownfish with you.

Monday, late in the night, I noticed my pair of clowns
lied eggs on the bathroom tile I placed near their anemone.
Did not took the picture then, but the eggs were orange,
quite bright, uniformly colored and translucent...

Yesterday evening I moved the tile to take a photo.
The female clown was ****ed off but I bribed her with food :-)

Here is the link to some of the pictures:
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clowns_8_2005/
The ones with 8-11.* pattern are from yesterday.
I have enlarged one of the pictures and decided to count eggs:
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clow....counting0.JPG
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clow....counting1.JPG
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clow....counting2.JPG
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clow....counting3.JPG
http://www.darmoland.pl/pszemol/Clow....counting4.JPG
I colored every single egg manually in Paintbrush program,
changing the color of my brush with every 20 eggs counted.
Then, I added all colored areas together and came up with
the number of eggs equal to 677. Pretty impressive...

The pictures from Wednesday (8-10.*) were not in focus so
the count I took on them is not as accurate, but I counted
much more eggs, almost 850. I am wondering what could be
the reason for diminishing number of eggs every day...
Could it be some predation ?

Anyway - I was wondering if anybody knows a computer program
I can use to count the eggs on the electronic picture in an
automatic way, without suffering dry eyes from counting dots
one by one ? :-) I tried to modify the picture to make it
black and white, and then count eggs, but the b&w conversion
did not work well on the colors I had on the picture...
I would like to count the eggs when I move them to the
fry tank, but I don't want to exercise my eyes too much ;-)
Any other ideas ?

p.s. I got the rotifers and algae culture running on high gear
in wait for the hatchlings... I am curious how will it work out.

It is normal that eggs dissapear through time. There are many reasons why
this happens. My guess is that not all the eggs get fertilized by males
sperm so some of them are wasted. Other eggs can get some sort of bacterial
or fungal infestations, some can be eaten by fish (not likely 'cose clowns
defend them like crazy), shrimps, worms...
More and more eggs will be lost until hatching but it is normal. That is the
reason why there are so many eggs. If only few of those eggs in nature
become adoult fish it is success for the breading pair.
If you achieve rearing to adulthoud 10 of them you should be very happy.
When you gain experience maybe you could rear more from each spawning.
Here is some articles on clownfish breading and rearing the fry

Good luck and keep us posting!

Unfortunately they do not work for some server problem.
Check back some other time. Maybe tomorrow.
Links are correct, server is cheap (free), so that is it failing a lot.

Try ipowerweb.com - It runs me $96 a year, and I have something like
2000 megs of storage space and 80+ gigs of bandwidth per month.

Cool service... But I do not even dream about the website like yours.
All I need is to share couple of crappy pictures ;-)

BTW - let me know if this will work for you guys:
These are pictures repeated from 8/11 http://www.voila.pl/mwyc1
Here are new pictures of fry from yesterday http://www.voila.pl/g5lhk

I know the picture quality has a lot of room for improvement
but I do not have too much of a photo making talent ;-)
