![]() I have my 4 Red Earred Slider turtles in an outdoor pond and all is going well. However, I have tons of feeder fish and goldfish that have taken over. I really only want my koi and my turtles and the pond company sold me a product called Supraverm. It will kill the goldfish and feeder fish and the koi aren't affected at all. This formula is supposed to kill flukes on koi and the advantage to me is that it kills the other fish. The BIG QUESTION.......will it harm my turtles? It is a mixture of Closantel and Mebendazole. Should I remove the turtles as a safeguard anyway? This is supposed to kill the feeder and goldfish in 3 days and the koi will be fine. Does anyone have any experience with this product? Thanks! Try googling the product and the word turtles,
or the chemical names and turtles and see if you get any hits. You could use a minnow trap to cull the goldfish as much as possible. k :-) |

I have used Supraverm with my koi. I know of one person that used it for
goldfish extermination, and they had at least one goldfish, now named superman, that was not affected. I don't know what the effect would be on the turtles, but I think that I would remove them. Unlike PP or formalin based products, it is not consumed by the organics in the pond, so before putting the turtles back in, I would do a major water change. -- RichToyBox http://www.geocities.com/richtoybox/pondintro.html "Nancy" wrote in message ... If it kills goldfish it will surely harm the koi in some way and who knows what else. Why not drain your pond down when the GF are not breeding and simply REMOVE them with a fish-net or seine as other's do? Rather than dump questionable chemicals into your pond use some elbow grease and a net. Your other fish will love the water change! Mine always do. The BIG QUESTION.......will it harm my turtles? It is a mixture of Closantel and Mebendazole. ## What if they eat the dead goldfish? Or what if the koi and other pond critters do? Will you stay by the pond netting out all the dead fish as they expire? I find that thought rather depressing. Should I remove the turtles as a safeguard anyway? This is supposed to kill the feeder and goldfish in 3 days and the koi will be fine. Does anyone have any experience with this product? Thanks! Nancy -- McKoi.... the frugal ponder...
