Then we get, "Of cause the plants will grow sir, they need a lot of
water"

This reminds me of a little gem I heard a few weeks ago. I was in the LFS
looking for some plants and I saw these two guys ogling the plants in the
large display tank. A worker walked by and the two guys asked him what they
fed their plants to keep them so healthy. The guy said NOTHING, just light,
that's all plants need to grow. Of course the tank was full of fish
happily pooping away, not to mention the plants probably rotate out of that
tank on a weekly basis.

I miss all this good stuff. I wonder if I should listen while they
are talking.

I have... when I have time from work at PetCo down the street.. on my
own time at !PetSmart....

quiet funny....

Actually sad... a lot of the time the big-boxes could sell more if
they educated their staff better... Like Mr. Schreiber, I have sold
their customers more product than the staff through better education.

A lot of the time customers come in bound and determined to get fish,
irregardless of anything else. let them know that their fish will be
happier, grow larger, and be better looking with proper care, and they
often pun bite /pun and buy more.......

Not really a lie, but one of the local stores right now has some Clown
Loaches with a tag on the tank with the price etc. In another thread
it's being mentioned that the majority of Clown Loaches are wild
caught. I would think that all Clown Loaches we see in stores are wild
caught, but I really don't know for sure; it may be possible that some
of these fish farm people in Asia are breeding them. But I presume
anyway that the vast majority of Clowns that we've seen in stores
throughout all times are wild caught fish.

Anyway, the Clowns in this store are a good size, 3-4 inches. The tag
on the tank with the very high price for the fish says: "Clown
Loaches. Wild caught!"

So this is their sales tactic? "These fish are wild caught, so they
are special Clowns, not the same as the Clowns in the other stores."
Blatantly dishonest sales tactic; but they're not lying, of course.

On one of my trips to Petsmart (?), I over heard a woman and hear daughter
talking to a clerk about a Peguin Bio-wheel. Clerk says "And all you have to
do to clean the wheel is run it under water in the sink". I just had to
speak up. The mother and daughter were happy I did, and the clerk gave me
one of those 'deer in headlights' looks.

"All Clown Loaches sold now are farm bred with the use of hormones" - I
always thought they were wild caught and didn't breed in captivity....would
be interesting if anyone knows better....

Biggest lies my local council told me:-

"Reading Festival will be quieter now we have relocated it a few yards up
the river " - word perfect right now - Iron Maiden I believe...

I know it's off-topic but it drowned out anything we were trying to listen
to unless we turned the volume up to a level which would have scared the
fish.....

BTW I can't believe I've become such an old foggie :-) Hey, if it had been
something I liked (like the good old days ) I might have spent the weekend
in the garden - lol

I never clean my biowheels and I've never even been tempted to do so. They
keep going and going and going.... I don't run penguins anymore though
except for my older woman friend right now and I expect that even though I
use the superior "spray bar" type of bio-wheel the penguin will serve her
almost perfectly. Is there some kind of truth you are referring to that is
different from what I know or are you supposed to not rinse the biowheels in
tap water because the chlorine/probable temperature shock would kill of a
lot if not all of the good bacteria? Just curious/fascinated, later!

I just had to
speak up. The mother and daughter were happy I did, and the clerk gave me
one of those 'deer in headlights' looks.

This one isn't a lie but I thought it might fit in under this topic. Bought
the first tank (15gall) just over a year ago from "Pets at Home". We were
advised to "buy as a big a tank as you have room for as this hobby is
addictive. If you don't you will be back buying more tanks very soon" -
hmm - 2 weeks later we bought the first 200L - now have 6 plus the little QT
tank..... :-)
