Default Sal****er Maracyn safe for freshwater fish?

My betta developed popeye the other day and I went to my local pet store to
get some medicine for it. The only stuff they had was Mardel brand
"Maracyn", but it was for sal****er aquariums. Does anyone know if this
would still be safe to use in a freshwater aquarium? I'm afraid I have
little choice in the matter...

Since they make a separate brand of the antibiotic called "Mardel
Freshwater Maracyn", and probably for a good reason, I wouldn't risk it.
I have also a read a previous post sometime claiming that the sal****er
version contains chemicals toxic to freshwater fish :-/

Putting a small amount of salt in the tank and using periodic short-term
high-concentration salt dips are recommended for treating freshwater
fish with 'popeye'.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. Putting a little non-iodized salt in the water reduced
the swelling by 80-90%.

After ten days of frequent water changes and salt added to the water, my
Betta is as good as new.
