Biggest lies my LFS told me

Yes, Pet Smart! I just coundn't not say anything. It blew my mind, the guy
really worked in fish department. Very scary. One of the reasons I'm glad I
found this group.

Yeah, but that's getting a bit more obscure. How many folks would know that
there is at least 3 types of Angelfish and 2 types of Discus? Of course,
when you put it into print, there *is* the expectation that a bit more
research went into checking your facts.

I've also been told that my betta won't need a heater - I already had
one and knew they did anyway.

The other thing that pet stores tell all the customers, is that fish
need about 1cubic cm of water surrounding them, so you can fit heaps
into a small tank, just like the approximate number you see jammed into
the ones at the pet store!

or my favorite, you can put oscars in a ten gallon tank, they only grow to there envirnoment. and after about three months they are attacking each other b/c they are well over five inches. dont you just love the idiots at wal-mart.

I can't wait to get a bigger tank so I can have an oscar! I saw a 7"
one at a local fish store - only $40 - I thought that was pretty cheap.
He was so cute too!

Anyway, I'm off topic... *runs and hides*

ohh if you are going to get an oscar "runs and hides" and he is at least seven inches make sure you at least have a 55 gallon tank, i have two, and they are in a ten gallon tank untill i can get a 55 this week. and it is a pain in the a$$ to keep it clean. this all is b/c they idiots at walmart said he'll only grow to his environment. nope not whats happening

Most 55 gallons tanks are not very wide and it is hard for a full grown
oscar to turn around. You should get a bigger tank or a custum tank. I have
a 60 gallon custom that is quite wide (18") and my oscar turns fully
strechted out. Mine is 11" long (hard to really measure).

no caboose I want to get them as babies, but yeah I'm hopefully going
to get a 6 foot long tank, with maybe a red tiger and an albino. Not
sure though, maybe I only want one, don't want them fighting. When I
graduate I'm garanteed a job so I should be able to blow my first pay
on a fish setup!
