I use Excel flourish daily, weekly water changes, add iron once maybe twice a week and have a high output light. Some swords have brown/blackish marks. What is the name of the plant growing in most of your aquarium. Mine sprouts green then turns brownish after a few days. I can shake this plant and brown stuff flies off. Any ideas??? TIA |

Hey Larry,
Aw, shucks..... blush Ya' know how to compliment a guy! Seriously, the plants that seem to have taken over my tank, started as a little-bitty one.... Large Leaf Ambulia is the common name. If you like that, you ought to see my Rubin Sword now!!! Oh, the Amulia grows extremely fast, good to detect nutrient problems. The key to my success? Well I am still learning, but that was a growth explosion just after the addition of my homemade hood (128W of T8s) and DIY CO2. I use Sera tablets and Sera leaf fertilizer by the directions. I use South Carolina red clay for my substrate, (against the advice of some). So I don't have an iron problem ![]() Oh, by the way, a guy named Chuck Gadd has an excellent Aq site with a chart to help target a tank's specific nutrient deficiency: http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_nutrient.htm I hope that helps! http://www.geocities.com/spiral_72/Spirals_page.html |

Oh, and.....
"Mine sprouts green then turns brownish after a few days. I can shake this plant and brown stuff flies off." Not saying this IS the case, but don't be fooled. A huge problem (IN MINE) especially with the finer leafed plants, is that "stuff" floating around in your water gets trapped within the leaves. The "stuff" builds up enough to seriously hinder photosynthesis and the plant...... I suppose the term "belly-up" wouldn't really work here would it? ![]() of maintenance maybe, but my tank needs more circulation to keep the stuff suspended in the water, so the filter can pick it up..... Later! |

Just start posting :-) Gill Looks like this thread has 'digressed' to discussing aquarium plants ;~). .....and digital signatures aside, some posters are fairly distinguishable by their writing style, like me: preaches basics (while performing wild experiments), wordy (but smithed), anecdotal (but open-minded), geeky (absolutely) and certifiably a fish-nut. Someone might be able to copy me, but who would want to? ;~) -- www.NetMax.tk |
