new planted tank setup- what about the filter?

Yep - let the filter run at the very least for good biological filtration
(i.e. the wheels). You might want to use a layer of mechanical filtration
media too though (i.e. filter wadding the water would have to go through so
solids are trapped in the filter and you can remove it periodically). Good
