I came across this at Australia's news.com.au just now. Wish they'd
given more details ![]() quote New marine species found in reef survey Several new species of fish, plants and at least one new species of crab have been discovered in a big new survey of the Great Barrier Reef. Dr Roland Pitcher from the CSIRO says scientists spent more than 300 days at sea covering 536,000 square kilometres of the reef from Cape York to Fraser Island. "We've seen a number of new fish, possibly a new pipehorse and maybe a new species of crab at least," he said. "And we can also confirm that there's been a number of species that have been confirmed in Australia waters for the first time. "We were fairly confident that we would find quite a number of new things because a lot of the kinds of animal groups that we are collecting specimens of from the seabed haven't really been studied extensively before." endquote |

With global temperature patterns changing, the reefs are changing too. Some fear for the reefs, thinking they're going to shrivel up into a sub-surface wasteland. My opinion is based more on the planet's ability to absorb change, and change WITH the changes. The reefs are changing, and for those of us interested, it's going to be interesting, indeed. b |
