You do a lot of your work using acrylic, do you have a cheap source for it
?. Where I am acrylic is more then 10x the cost of glass. One sheet of acrylic 6mm thick in the size of 3 foot x 3 foot is $80aus, the same size in glass in well under $10aus. I don't know about cheap, but I'm building sumps all the time, so I tend to have
small pieces lying around. Most of that was built with tiny 2" scrap pieces, except for the main piece with the holes routed out. I actually had to waste a piece the first time around, because I cut a square hole only to find out it was a little too big. Opps!! So I redid it with the octogons with a new piece. Then yesterday, I cut another set of octogons to keep it as a template in case I ever have to make something similar again. I liked making it because it was different from the typical acrylic project I work on. Trust me, I didn't do it for the money, because I only asked for $20 for my trouble. I probably spent 1.5 hours on that - from beginning to end, and for that amount of time $20 isn't worth it for me. recently added a walmart $8 desk fan above my overflow box it blows down in to overflow & air comes back out holes in aquarium lids temp dropped from 84 back to 78 where my heater was set to have ordered 21db 25cfm 80mm PC fan to replace walmart fan http://www.siliconacoustics.com/acou...mm-af80ct.html will be placing another above my sump tried a few 110v 80mm fans w/ numerous problems too loud, too little airflow, poor quality (started rattling within weeks) the walmart unit was a quick fix until i found something better Acoustifan & Papst both make very quiet fans w/ temp monitoring as the temp rises above 70F, the fan's RPM's increase |

The old fella at the Cabulture Markets on sundays. I don't know his name.
This is 2nd hand glass, not new. But it's unscratched. We pay $60aus for 4 foot tanks (6mm glass) from him, that also includes top covers too.
