Default tank LRO

(LRO=Live Rock Only)
How tank should be looking like if:
-you put live rock into it
-you put sand (not live)
-you don't add any snail hermits fishes corals and algae
-you skim, fill-in Ca, make regular water changes
-you switch on lights
-you do it for long period of time (year)
?

Will algae overtake it completely?

It depends on what came in on the rock I would imagine. You will likely
have snails, amphipods and copepods at a minimum.
