Nikki - your bettas and guppies

thank you, I did get your last post and copied it, I have it wrote down and
started that day, it has not been soon enough to see a physical difference
but they are looking more "up" swimming around more.
(that is what I was worried about, weather they could handle a whole
treatment of ick)
But I am going to follow what you said and hope for the best
I will update this thread when I get back from the dr with my son, he broke
his collar bone playing football, my second female guppy had her babies, I
removed them from the tank, as to not cause any more problems.

important thing. It will keep the baby guppies alive and heal the bettas.

Salt and bettas. Bettas do not like salt. Only use salt for bettas if
they are sick AND you are using no other medicines.

Bettas and ich. Use your Rid-Ich+. While you see spots, add a fresh dose
every day after a 50% water change. Once the spots are gone, treat the
next day, and then start treating every third day for two weeks (this is
different than the label says but has worked really well for me). It
keeps the ich from coming back. Do NOT use salt while you are using
Rid-Ich+ on any soft water fish like bettas.

As long as you are doing the 50% water changes between doses and using no
other treatments, you will not hurt the bettas with Rid-Ich+. It should
only take 3-4 days for spots to disappear at 80F.

Fin damage. Change water daily until the fins start to heal. The fin
margins will start looking smoother and then begin to grow. The Rid-Ich+
you're already using will help them avoid finrot and fungus. 50% a day is
fine. Once the fins look better, go to changing 50% every third day
(before the Rid-Ich+ doses will be easy). Finally, level off at 50% a
week when the fins are growing well.

I hope this is clear and that you don't lose any more fish!

I think I told you my female who died the other day had babies the night
before she died, so I have them in another tank, last night my son (with the
broken collar bone) was looking at them and said hey mom why are you leaving
some of the babies in here, I said i'm not I took them out, he said "think
you missed one" so I went and scooped it out, about that time I noticed more
about 15 more, so for the next hour I was looking for babies, so I don't
know if they were ones I missed that night or the other female had them, she
did not look very pregnant to me but who knows.
I been watching the guppies for any signs of disease, they look good, I am
going to keep doing extra water changes for the time being until I know for
sure they are fine. I don't think I was feeding to much but I have been
feeding less anyway, I got them their regular flake food again, I changed
because I thought it would be better for them to have different food, but
they would not eat anything else, I even tried the bloodworms and they did
not even touch them, so I am just sticking with the normal flakes I feed
them.
The betta's like I said do look more perky they are swimming more, I am
doing the ick treatment until the spots are gone then every three days after
that, I'm doing 50% water changes daily.
this morning when I woke up, there were little bubbles all over the top of
the one side, I don't know if it was from the air hose or what, kind of
strange.
by chance do you know if I need to be feeding an algae eater extra food,
when I got him for my big tank I had some algae one the big rocks but it
seems to be gone now, I am guessing he needs something else but what I don't
really know, what do they eat?

It's amazing how many guppies a big female can have.

How funny. Flakes are fine for guppies. Mine adore daphnia and
bloodworms, but not all fish are the same. I'm glad they're doing
better. Guppies are ravenous little fish. They'll eat all they need in
under a minute, though.

That's a bubblenest. Your betta made it. It means he's feeling better
and hoping a female will happen to come by to lay eggs in it.

Yes, algae eaters need food once the algae is gone. Offer a mix of
sinking algae wafers and fresh veggies. I use slices of cucumber,
zucchini or romaine lettuce leaves. You can buy a suction cup clip for
the vegetables or rubber band them to a rock. Don't leave veggies in
your tank for more than 24 hours or they'll rot.

Tap water may contain dissolved gas that accumulates on glass and
plants. It may take up to a day to dissolve back into the water in my
experience. A big water change makes more bubbles.

I think it's totally harmless.
