Default What eats elephant ear corals?

Hi all,
At the risk of being flamed for wanting to rid my tank of what some
might call a beautiful coral, I would like to know the best way to RID
my tank of elephant ears. I bought a small piece of rock with metallic
green xenias and within a week a small elephant ears started to grow. A
couple of months later I have an infestation of elephant ears and no
metter how I try to clean the rock they grow on, I cant seem to get rid
of them peminantly and wondered if anyone knows of a 'reef safe' fish,
or invertibrate that will do the job for me? If anyone does have any
suggestions please let me know if the elephant ears are the only things
they eat.

Thanks all

Yep, those are mushrooms. They don't look like elephant
ear mushrooms though, but either way, they are mushrooms,
and can be pulled off.

Also those look like green star polyps (pictures a bit
blurry), not xenia.

Hemostats are handy for pulling them off. You should be
able to rip them off, and then scrape off the remaining
foot. You should be able to do this by just not letting
them grow back to full size, but scrape off any that try
to grow back while they are still small.

I've only been in the hobby a few years, and it sound like my LFS
doesn't know much more than me! I think Ill check-up on what he
sells in future!

I did try to remove them and they grew back, but if perseverance is the
only way, then I guess I'll have to perceiver!

Thanks for the advice. Right, where are my pliers?......

That's often true, and they often lie to make a sale.

I'd make a fortune at the rate these things are growing!
