Roy can give you good advice....the newsgroups I posted also will also do so as will the web based forums that Roy suggested....I know of noone else on the freshwater groups than give you better advice than Roy although I may be doing one or two down by saying this, but I say Roy because he is the only one that has the real experience to my knowledge....this is a freshwater group rather than marine...but we will help you the best that we can.... You're asking for marine advice in a group full of freshwater aquarists. Try rec.aquaria.marine.reefs. It's an active newsgroup specific to marine aquaria. IMO, canister filters are only suitable for fish-only marine setups, and only with some additional biofiltration like a bio-wheel. Canisters are hard to clean and tend to become nitrate factories so adding an easily accessible prefilter is helpful. If you want to keep inverts, remove all the biomedia and use the canister for water movement and/or chemical filtration. -- Put the word aquaria in the subject to email me. It's called rec.aquaria. **freshwater** .misc for a reason Gav ;~). We could easily advise you on equipment requirements moving from salt to fresh, and we could discuss the various freshwater set-ups which are possible. There are also various marine set-ups possible, but for this you're better off in a marine forum or marine newsgroup. That's where you'll find a variety of opinions and recommendations to choose from. Actually most visitors typically comment on how well behaved and civil it is in rafm, especially as there are often many different opinions to reconcile. It's simply 'respect', for opinions, hopefully being expressed in a positive and helpful way. Sometimes that respect (given and received) falters and then it gets less positive or helpful. Almost feels like a family BBQ ;~) -- www.NetMax.tk |

Grab some black mollies for your marine tank. easy fish and nice to have them for 2 months before trying something expensive. Beware any metal in the tank and that includes impellor shafts in cannisters! |
