My aging Newfoundland took me along with her today for her annual
"senior wellness exam" and ongoing arthritis assessment with her favorite veterinarian, Katy. The exam went well, and after the dog talk was finished and the Master Card approved, I asked Katy the vet if she happened to know any vets in the area that treated fish. Well, Lo and Behold, Katy has just taken on a new partner who happens to specialize in fish, among other things. Wonderful! Not many fish people have easy access to a fish doc 15 minutes up the road. -- Mister Gardener For Killfile FAQs visit http://www.hyphenologist.co.uk/killfile/killfilefaq.htm |

I had the impression that few vets treated fish, because fish are cheap and considered disposable by many. Public aquaria and fish hatcheries might be another story. When re-entering the hobby a decade or so ago I would gladly have paid a fish vet to make a house call. The vet would likely have identified new tank syndrome, excess ammonia and related matters, reducing or eliminating my fish losses. Have you any idea how the fish vet is applying his/her fishy specialty? An on-line ask-the-fish-vet site (for a fee) might be interesting, if the professional association approves of this kind of thing. |

I usually associate fish vets with poking holes in big fish and doing scrapings and biopsies and stuff like that. They have a hex tank in the waiting room - I left a message with the receptionist that the kissing gourami needs a much larger tank and the live plants appear to be deficient in potassium. Just to let the new fish vet know that someone's watching. -- Mister Gardener -- Pull the WEED to email me |
