I was looking around for info on the diffurent Protien Skimmers and was wondering if this was a decent product or was just a bogus "lets sell the customer anything" ordeal http://www.ecoaqualizer.com/products.htm never heard of this but it looks to be interesting and would like to get some input on the product has anyone used it before or are using now I dont have the $$ to just spend to test a product out hehe thanks for the input in advance As others have already said, this looks "iffy". However, if you're looking for a skimmer, you might want to consider the CPR refugium/ skimmer combo. Not the best skimmer, and not the best refugium, but both are good, and the combo's at a decent price. Mike |

I would buy a Coralife Super Skimmer in a heart beat over any Eco
Aqualizer. On yet another web based forum, there was a fairly bad pi$$ ing contest between posters in regards to the Eco Aqualizer and its so called claims to fame.....4 or 5 of them wound up being hard headed abd bought the units. Initially they were all bragging on what they were expecting and what was happening, and within a month 3 fessed up it initially did help, or so they thought it did, but their water quality was as bad and maybe even worse and two of them had problems when they tried toget a refund 9n the money back warranty. Anyone can put up outrageous claims and bogus testimonials on the internet. The truth being is in the old addage, if it appears to be too good to be true it probably is not true. Most folks could smell a scam or semi scam here from the start, others bit for it hook line and sinker. Its a typical product that should join the like of the items they sell between the hours of 1am and 4 am on TV. Its hard to beat a coral life super skimmer for providing best bang for the buck. And a 5 or 10 gal all glass aquarium is just to cheap to but and modify into a sump and or refugium than the typical acrylic CPR products, even if yu have to drill the tank to use it, as its a relatively straight forward job of drilling a glass tank and is doable by virtually any home type. Its more hype involved than anything else and is as easy as 1, 2, 3.On Tue, 13 Jun 2006 03:07:26 +0000 (UTC), wrote: Jason wrote: I was looking around for info on the diffurent Protien Skimmers and was wondering if this was a decent product or was just a bogus "lets sell the customer anything" ordeal http://www.ecoaqualizer.com/products.htm never heard of this but it looks to be interesting and would like to get some input on the product has anyone used it before or are using now I dont have the $$ to just spend to test a product out hehe thanks for the input in advance As others have already said, this looks "iffy". Absolutely no filter at all, just use the rock. As I say if you read up Berlin you will see why filters are harmful in a reef, not helpful. Steve |

A proper marine tank will have a baffle type overflow and will be drilled somewhere behind that to let you pipe the sal****er back down to that sump. You can use a standpipe if the bottom of the tank has been drilled and you have access below. The height of the baffle or standpipe sets the level. Although it's not the ideal way to do it, you can convert a basic tank by getting a reasonably large hole drilled at water level, and attaching a bulkhead type plumbing fitting there, rather like an overflow is provided on a domestic water tank. I say not ideal because obstruction and water level variation is more likely with such an arrangement, but it worked OK for me for one tank I had. Steve |

The majority of them can be drilled though....All it takes is a post to state what size and brand name tank they intend topdrill and its easy to reply with the yes or no its not doable on that tank....Even the manufacturers have online references as to their being tempered or not. Its certianly not a black art. I am not saying it is black art... The problem is that the majority of tanks on the market are made of tempered glass on the bottom. So drilling is out of question. |

It's not quite that simple. First you have to figure out
what the manufacture is, then decide when it was made, then decide if it is tempered or not. Well its certainly not that hard either.....There is a couple of ways
to determine if its tepered or not as well as ,mfgr website / info. On top of that if the sump is on the bottom under a display tank or behind the display tank then there is really no need to drill the bottom period. There is some 55's with all tempered glass, and they are the ones sold by Wal MArt...My main intent on what I stated is, its not hard to drill a tank, nor is it hard to figure out, but evidently its kind of hard for some of you to face the facts you do not know everything there is to know about everything..so the first thing you do is put down anyones input to the contrary. Since you say it's not hard to figure out if a tank is tempered or not, then how are you going to tell if the tank is tempered? Look at it while standing on your head? You need to admit that you can not be 100% sure whether or not any given tank is tempered, and what pieces of glass are tempered on the tank, and what pieces are not. Wayne Sallee Wayne's Pets |

![]() Well since you show your ignorance, Its prertty well understandable that you would not comprehend how to differentiate between tempered and non tempered glass if I was to expain it ot you like you were a 2 year old. Suffice it to say, trying to hld a coversation with most in this group is akin to talking to dictators or know it alls. Guess there is no need to participate here since about 2 or 3 of yu have ALL the bases covered. Bye PS MAybe that fellow Reef BAy wsa not as dumb as you all gave him credit for, he was right in a lot of what he had to say.......Wayne Sallee is pretty well mush an IDIOT.
