normal ?

btw....i set up another tank for mom till the babies get bigger, a 5
gallon
will her belly go down dramatically after birth ?

I have had lots of Platies and they have had too many fry, but I
hesitate to say much. My experience stretches over 3 years.

I ended my fry problem by separating the males from the females. A
strange thing happened, I put the males in a 10 gallon tank, 5 as I
recall. Four died within 2 weeks. None of the females died in that
period.

All of my females, 3 remaining, are fat, but so are most of my fish.
Live bearing males seem to stay thin, while females look pregnant all
the time.

my female is really huge ...if she's no longer pregnant then she's in need of jenny craig ...j/k
well since i don't have a male i'm going to move mom into another tank i set up ...so hopefully i can keep the little ones i have ...i had planned to buy more so i got off cheap ...it will be fun to watch them grow !
