![]() Discovered I have two aptasia plants in my tank tonight. Who knows what I can't see. Weird to because I haven't added anything in a long time they must have been hiding. I have found that Berghia Nudibranchs are the best for aptasia and I'd been wanting a nudibranch anyway. The questions: 1) I've read aptasia is all they eat. What do I feed them if/when they eradicate my aptasia? 2) I have a brittle star. Is it true that the brittle starfish will make a meal of the Berghia? I appreciate the input. I really prefer the Lettuce Nudibranch to the Berghia but I need the Berghia's talents so that's the direction I'm going (unless any of you have heard of Lettuce Nudibranch eating aptasia too?? ![]() Thanks for the time, Bryan www.geocities.com/bryg30 if you want set up details |

Be aware that they are very small and light weight. If you just put them in your
tank they'll just blow around. Best way I've found is to set up a small tank with very light flow, say one small power head, and place the rock with the aptasia in it and let the berghia seek and destroy. Tes, they will starve if you run out of aptasia. Hope this helps. In article , kim gross says... Bryan wrote: Discovered I have two aptasia plants in my tank tonight. Who knows what I can't see. What about trying some peppermint shrimp? A bit hit and miss, I have three
in my tank and the nearest they got to an aptasia was walking over it to get to the fish food. or a Copperband butterfly (Mine cleared the tank about 36 hours after putting him in), you could probably buy one from your lfs and return him for some credit after he's done his job. I'm lucky because mine eats most things i put in the tank and is a tubby happy chappie, but i think it's only about 25% live more than 3 month's in the tank because they are so fussy. |

Hi Bryan,
I saw your posts on berghia and thought I'd help. We grow and sell berghia. Berghia nudibranchs eat only aiptasia. So once it's gone, the berghia will starve in about a week or so. Usually they come out during the day when the food becomes scarce. At that point you can take them out of the tank and give them to a freind or sell them to a local fish store. Large brittle stars can be a problem. It is advisable to move them to a sump while the berghia are in your tank. More aggressive predators include: peppermint, camel and coral banded shrimp, lobsters, agressive crabs like Sally lighfoot and pom pom, some dottybacks and some wrasses like some of the larger members of the coris family. Check out our web site if you want to read all about berghia: www.saltyunderground.com Good luck, Lisa |

Discovered I have two aptasia plants in my tank tonight. It is possible, that these are only two you have... I would try to remove rock with aiptasia from the tank and try to remove it with a clean toothbrush... Then rinse rest with water and with some luck you will destroy all of them. Do not do it in the tank, because aiptasia can regenerate from the smallest piece of its body - so when you damage the anemone in the tank, pieces will flow with the water and lodge somewhere causing another outbreak. p.s. aiptasia is not a plant, they are animals (anemones). |
