I've gradually been using 4 danios to get a new Malawi cichlid tank

it's about ready to add the a couple of cichlids now (baby auratus) and
I've
managed to get 2 of the danios out and back into a community tank but I
just
CAN'T catch the other two. The little blighters just dash into the
cichlid
caves. Is there any chance of them surviving if I leave them with the
cichlids?

I recently had this very problem, and here is how I solved it.

I had zebra danios in both my SA and malawi tanks, and I hated the
little buggers messing up my region specific dynamic. I was able to get
about half of the toatal, but the rest were just impossible. Until that
is, I figured out that if I left the lights out at night for about 30
minutes, I was able to switch them back on and really quickly ambush
the danios as their tiny eyes were not adjusted to the light. Three
trys and I had all the little buggers out of both tanks.

Give it a try, but you gotta be quick. If the light switch is not close
to the tank I would suggest inlisting a friend or what have you to hit
the light as you wait in striking position. Just make sure your eyes
are adjusted to the light, or you will have the same problem as the
fish...lol

not a bad tip, red filtered torch at night might work as well
