Are Eheims reliable in terms of NOT leaking? I noticed some problems with older models (from searching google news). Thanks! Dan I do not know about Eheims since I never owned one. I do know a lot about Emperors. I use 3 on my 150 gallon tank, one in each section. I also run a Fluval 404 and so far no leaks....but it has heaped out before. Suddenly the impellor broke into pieces while it was running one day. The plastic had wore down inside it until it failed. All in 1 1/2 years......and I was leaving on vacation for 3 weeks. So I just went and worried about it later. My canister is for floss and pumping water through a UV filter. I personally cannot get behind relying on any canister filter for bio filtering. One power outage when your not looking and your fish get jacked. That will not happen with the Emperors. No hydrogen sulfide will come out of them. PS. They make those battery powered airpumps with a power plug, that when power is out, they turn on. For $10 bucks and a 2 pack of copper tops thats cheap insurance..... |

I've been using eheims for about 15 yeras now (yikes, has it been that
long...). Anyway, I've never had leakage problems. Just folow the directions for set up, and they're great. In the older units, there was an O ring that you had to make sure was seated right (not hard, but easy to forget). that may be where some of the google hits you found came from. Other than that, I've never had a problem. I used to do animal care at a fairly large University fish room - 70-80 tanks on average, from 5 gallons to thousands of gallons, fresh, salt, and brackish, tropical, to arctic. Always used eheims, never had problems.... --JD "Dan J.S." wrote in message ... Ok, so I am also looking at the Eheim 2028 to replace my leaking Fluvals.
